Salford City Reds director of football Steve Simms has insisted the team will be desperate to succeed in Super League despite no prospect of relegation. The Reds are guaranteed a spot in the top flight for the next three years after being awarded a licence. Simms told BBC Radio Manchester: "They want to win regardless, they're not bothered whether they are going to go up or down or who they play next week. "Every game is a special game and they want to win at any cost at any level." Salford are one of 14 teams in Super League from next season and with no relegation their place will be secure until 2011. And Simms believes that professional pride is a crucial factor in ensuring that games will remain extremely competitive. "The two bottoms teams, when they face each other next year, are still going to want to bash each other and win because they don't want to finish bottom - and that's just how sports people are," he added. Salford were relegated from Super League a year ago but are currently top of the National League and also won the Northern Rail Cup.
