Wigan v Catalans Dragons

A last-gasp try by Dane Carlaw gave the Catalans Dragons victory over Wigan to move them up to third in the table.

The Dragons came from 24-16 down with five minutes to play with scores from former Wigan prop Jerome Guisset and Carlaw to claim victory.

Tries from Pat Richards (2), Eamon O'Carroll and George Carmont had put Wigan in control.

But Guisset barged over before Carlaw grabbed Bosc's high kick to the corner to go over for the winning score.

The French side came into the game on the back of five wins in a row and they looked good early on when Clint Greenshields went over after six minutes for a try converted by Thomas Bosc who then added a penalty.

A try and two penalties by Richards brought Wigan back into the game but an error by Andy Coley allowed Bosc kick over another penalty for a narrow 10-8 interval lead.

O'Carroll and Carmont edged Wigan in front and although Justin Murphy pulled a score back, Richards went over for his second try of the night to inch the Warriors closer to victory.

But the Dragons were not to be denied as they claimed a famous win.

Wigan coach Brian Noble:

"I'm disappointed with the manner we lost. We didn't start the game well enough and we looked a little flat for the first 20 minutes.

"We found some enthusiasm and I thought in the second half we did enough but we couldn't put the nail in the coffin.

"I thought we had done enough to come away with the spoils but you are always worried if you don't do the right things at the right end of the field and it can come back and haunt you and it certainly did tonight."

Catalans coach Mick Potter:

"I thought they were on top in the second half and the game had just slipped away from us.

"We had no energy there, but somehow we found it, and we came up with a good play at the death. It was great to get the two points, but they gave everyone a heart attack.

"We looked down and out in the second half, and the body language of the players suggested they had nothing left. To find something late in the second half was fantastic and a credit to the players.

"They are starting to believe in themselves and they are finding the energy when perhaps a year or two ago they couldn't find that energy."
