Wakefield missed a chance to go back into the top six play-off places after losing to Catalans in Perpignan. The home side led 12-8 at the break with tries from Cyril Gossard and Jason Croker before Remi Casty extended the Dragons lead on 44 minutes.
Sam Obst reduced the deficit to 18-14 but tries from Justin Murphy and Clint Greenshields put the Dragons in charge.
Jamie Rooney scored his second try for Wakefield with 10 minutes left but Adam Mogg made sure with a score late on.
The game did erupt late on and a 77th-minute brawl led to the dismissals of Richard Moore and Alex Chan while Luke Quigley was sin-binned.
The result returned the Dragons to winning ways after the 30-8 defeat at the hands of St Helens in last week's Challenge Cup final at Wembley.
Wakefield now lie in eighth place and are one point off the play-off places with just two games to go.
