Lolesi celebrates his stunning hat-trick at the Galpharm Stadium |
Huddersfield 26 (12)
Tries: Jensen, Lolesi 3
Goals: Drew 5
Bradford 22 (16)
Tries: Solomona, Henderson, McKenna
Goals: Harris 5
Huddersfield's play-off hopes received a boost after a hat-trick from Jamahl Lolesi gave them victory in a game marred by fighting between the sides. Bradford's Tame Tupou was sent off for punching on 63 minutes while Giants prop Keith Mason saw red soon after for striking Glenn Morrison.
The Bulls had gone 16-8 up after tries from David Solomona and Ian Henderson and four Iestyn Harris goals.
But the Giants fought back and Lolesi's hat-trick was enough for the win.
Huddersfield had taken a third-minute lead through Rod Jensen but Bradford took an eight-point lead with Harris slotting over his fourth goal on 36 minutes.
Lolesi then scored either side of half-time before the game erupted midway through the second half when Tupou was dismissed for punching Stuart Jones in the face.
Mason followed three minutes later when he reacted to a high tackle from Morrison, an incident which led to a massive brawl.
Lolesi sealed the points with a brilliant solo try on 70 minutes before referee Ashley Klein had to separate the players as fighting started again.
Bradford's Chris McKenna added a consolation deep into injury time but it was too little too late.
Giants coach Jon Sharp:
"I'm not going to waste my breath talking about the referee because it distracts from our performance. "There was a lot of effort, skill and endeavour in adversity and that needs to be acknowledged.
"We had to re-organise after losing Shane Elford to injury early on and then had to play with 12 men against a very strong Bradford side. I feel very proud of the way we secured victory."
Bradford coach Steve McNamara:
"I don't think either side knew what rules we were supposed to be playing to. The players were very frustrated and that's when you get indiscipline and red cards. "Tame threw a punch. I don't know why. It's very unusual for him and I'll have to speak with him about it later. I've no idea at all what the other red card was supposed to be for.
"But I have enough problems on my plate to be that worried about the referee.
"What we saw was a very tired Bradford performance, both physically and mentally.
"We've had so many injuries that many of our players like Sam Burgess, have had to play in every round of Super League and every Challenge Cup game without getting a rest."
