St Helens do not know when winger Ade Gardner will be able to play again after he was forced to pull out of Sunday's game against Harlequins. He was injured in an alleged street assault earlier this month and also missed the Leeds match last weekend.
"There is bleeding in and around the eye and swelling - his vision is impaired," said coach Daniel Anderson.
"It is a concern. He won't play until the specialist gives him the green light. At the moment, it's indefinite."
A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and released on bail following the incident in Gardner's home town of Barrow-in-Furness.
Gardner, who scored eight tries in his first 12 matches for the champions, was hoping to push for a place in the Great Britain team to play France on 22 June.
He made his Test debut against New Zealand at Knowsley Road last June but was not selected for the end-of-season Tri-Nations Series.
