Rogers played 45 Tests for Australia in the 15-man code |
Former Wallabies star Mat Rogers has returned to rugby league after signing for new NRL side Gold Coast Titans. Rogers, 31, is returning to the 13-man game a year earlier than initially expected after he quit union last month, citing personal reasons.
"I'm just rapt to have everything sorted out and very much looking forward to getting in and doing the hard yards," said Rogers.
The utility back switched codes in 2002 and played 45 Tests for the Wallabies.
Rogers will start training with the Titans on Tuesday.
His departure comes at a bad time for the Wallabies, who are without first-choice full-back Chris Latham for the entire Super 14 season because of a serious knee injury.
However, Latham is confident he will be fit for the World Cup, which begins in September in France.
Rogers was one of three high-profile Australian rugby league players recruited to rugby union to play for the Wallabies at the 2003 World Cup.
His versatility allowed him to play in every position along the backline from fly-half through to full-back.
He has also represented Australia in rugby league and Queensland in the State of Origin series.
The Titans now boast six internationals for their debut season, including Great Britain winger Brian Carney, who started training with the Titans on Monday.
