Former St Helens star Tommy Martyn has raised 2605 for ill former team-mate Steve Prescott by auctioning off his 1996 Challenge Cup final medal. Prescott has a rare form of stomach cancer, and Martyn is donating the proceeds from the sale to help him.
The medal was bought by XIII Heroes, a supporter-led charity set up following injuries to Danny Scott and Matt King in 2004.
Martyn and Prescott were in the Saints side that beat Bradford 40-32 in 1996.

"It's a truly great gesture from Tommy to give up something he treasures, and he is absolutely delighted with the amount of money that has been raised for his pal," said a spokesman for the fund-raising committee.
Prescott, who is due to undergo chemotherapy in June, scored two tries at Wembley in a match regarded as the best ever Challenge Cup final.
"It's absolutely brilliant. To have won a medal like this, at Wembley, and to sell it to help somebody else is phenomenal," said Prescott's father Eric.
"Everyone, past and present players, have been fantastic. Tommy has been round to see Steve and we can't thank him enough.
"I said to Steve that they must think a lot of him to show such support. It's been unbelievable. We've had Alex Murphy, Bobbie Goulding and there's too many others to mention."
Among other fund-raising events is a boxing match between Hull's Lee Radford and Wigan and Great Britain prop Stuart Fielden on 4 February.
