Ryan Hudson's appeal against a two-year drugs ban will be heard in Leeds on Thursday 31 March. The Bradford hooker was handed the suspension by the Rugby Football League (RFL) after testing positive for banned steroid stanozolol in December.
The 25-year-old pleaded guilty at the hearing but Hudson's solicitors are contesting the length of the ban.
They believe the two-year ban, double the punishment imposed on Dom Peters in 2003, is inconsistent.
Peters tested positive for the same drug but received only a one-year ban from the sport.
"Ryan Hudson has formally lodged notice of appeal against the decision made by the RFL," said a statement from solicitors Cramer Richards. "No further comments will be made until the outcome of the appeal hearing."
The RFL has not yet signed up as part of the world anti-doping agency (Wada), but hearing judge Peter Charlesworth said the punishment followed Wada guidelines which call for a two-year ban.
