Lockyer wants shorter Tri-Nations |  Australia beat Great Britain 44-4 to win the Tri-Nations |
Australian captain Darren Lockyer has called for international tournaments to be shortened in future to make sure players spend less time on tour. Lockyer and his team-mates put together a proposal during the Tri-Nations series with Britain and New Zealand which they hope will be adopted. "The Tri-Nations is a great concept and all the players are right for it. "I just think we can structure it a little better so that players aren't away from home as long," said Lockyer. "The southern hemisphere teams could play their games down under and then head off to Great Britain and we're away from home about a month to five weeks, which is better than two months." Australia beat Great Britain 44-4 in the final to win the Tri-Nations trophy, and most of the players returned home on Wednesday after eight weeks away. Australian Rugby League chief executive Geoff Carr is sympathetic to their wishes. "They'd like to go again, but obviously they'd like to spend less time in the UK," said Carr. "There's something that they've put to us along those lines, but we haven't had an opportunity to discuss it with New Zealand or with Great Britain yet."
