Billy Slater scored a brace of tries two days before his 21st birthday as Queensland kept the State of Origin series alive with victory in Brisbane.

New South Wales led 12-6 at half-time after two tries from Newcastle wing Timana Tahu to one from Slater.

Queensland stormed back in the second half with tries from Willie Tonga, Slater again and Dane Carlaw.

A try from Luke Rooney cut the deficit but the Maroons added a late penalty as they levelled the series at 1-1.
