The 35-year-old former Huddersfield, Sheffield and Widnes forward came out of retirement to play for the National League club this season.

And he has been placed in temporary charge following the sacking of Tony Anderson on Tuesday.

"Anthony is a senior member of our squad and someone who all the players look up to," said Halifax football manager Paul Dixon.

"We also believe that he has the respect of the fans and is the ideal person to prepare and inspire the players until a permanent replacement is appointed."

Farrell currently works full time as a development officer in the Blues Sox's schools and community programme and also coaches National Conference Division Two side Huddersfield Sharks.
