Widnes see off Saints
Jason Demetriou
Jason Demetriou scored twice for Widnes
Widnes 24-6 St Helens

Widnes ran in five tries against a youthful St Helens side in a final friendly before the Powergen Challenge Cup kicks off.

The young Saints tackled admirably but only troubled the Vikings when scrum-half Phil Anderton followed up his own kick to touch down.

That equalised the Vikings' opener, scored by Chris Percival early on.

Further first half tries came from Anthony Farrell and Adam Hughes to see the home side turn around with an eight-point lead.

The second half was a dour affair, enlivened by a brace of tries from Jason Demetriou to seal Widnes' win.

Warrington 26-16 London

Warrington prop Nick Fozzard faces an anxious week to see if he will be available for next Saturday's big TXU Energi Challenge Cup clash with Bradford.

Fozzard was placed on report after just two minutes of the 26-16 win over London after a heavy challenge that led to Matt Toshack being stretchered from the field.

The Rugby League will now view a video of the incident.

Warrington's new Australian winger Brent Grose grabbed a hat-trick of tries on his debut for the Wolves with the other scores coming from Jamie Burbin and Ben Westwood.

Lee Briers added two conversions and Nick Owen was on target with one goal attempt.

It was a day to remember for Prop Idol recruit James Hersey, who grabbed a try for the Broncos while Jim Dymock and Rob Purdham also touched down and Tony Martin landed two goals.
