Wells heads home to Wakefield
Jon Wells in action for Castleford Tigers
The speedy Wells scored over 50 tries for Castleford

Wakefield Trinity have already begun the task of strengthening their squad ahead of next season's fight to stay in the Super League.

The Wildcats have signed speedy winger Jon Wells from neighbours Castleford.

"This is a big personal move for me," said the 24-year-old wingman, who joins his home-city club.

"I am delighted to have signed for Wakefield.

"I am looking forward to working with Shane (McNally) and Adrian (Vowles) and see this as a way of moving my personal career and the club's fortunes forward."

Trinity have survived relegation by the skin of their teeth in each of the last two seasons, each year only guaranteeing their place in the top flight in the last game of the campaign.

Wells has scored over 50 tries for Castleford in his career at The Jungle and is a former Tigers team-mate of Wakefield's player-coach Adrian Vowles.

And he is not the only signature secured by the club in the last few days.

Ex-Leeds forward Jamie Field and player of the year Troy Slattery have each agreed extensions to their contracts at Belle Vue.

Promising youngster

Trinity have also agreed professional terms with French U19 international Olivier Elima.

The French youngster has been playing with the club's academy side for the last two seasons and has one senior outing to his name.

Coach Shane McNally said: "I am pleased to have these signings in the bag.

"The players are all quality Super League players.

"Having Jamie and Troy back on board is a huge boost and Jon is a great asset to add to our current squad."

Meanwhile, the club is expected to announce more signings of British and Australian-based players within the next few weeks.
