Eels survive Broncos fightback
Jason Moodie in action for Parramatta
Moodie was one of four tryscorers for the Eels

Parramatta held off a late surge from Brisbane to maintain their NRL title challenge.

The Broncos, joint leaders with the Canterbury Bulldogs on 21 points at the start of the 13th round, rallied from 22-6 down late in the game before eventually losing 22-18 at ANZ Stadium.

The Eels moved onto 19 points after a fast and furious contest between teams both fielding players who had competed in the midweek State of Origin match.

Parramatta's tries came from rookie Adam Mogg, Jason Moodie, Adam Dykes and Ian Hindmarsh while Luke Burt kicked three goals.

Casey McGuire, Shaun Berrigan and Shane Webcke crossed for the Broncos, with Lote Tuqiri kicking two goals and Scott Prince one.

Mark O'Meley
Mark O'Meley will be out for six weeks after breaking his jaw
Newcastle ran in six tries to send Melbourne spinning to their sixth straight defeat.

The Storm's cause was not helped by the loss of new skipper Rodney Howe after just six minutes following a clash of heads with Matt Gidley.

Andrew Johns converting five of the six tries and added a field goal as the Knights won 37-16 at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Cronulla scored 34 unanswered points in the second half to beat St George Illawarra 34-13 at Toyota Park.

Tries from Chris McKenna, Paul Mellor, Brett Kimmorley, Karl Lovell and Matthew Rieck helped the Sharks snap their seven-match losing streak.

The Bulldogs recorded their club-record 10th straight victory by beating Penrith 38-24 but lost prop Mark O'Meley with a broken jaw.

Round 13 results:

Brisbane 18-22 Parramatta
Newcastle 37-16 Melbourne
Sharks 34-13 St George
Penrith 24-38 Bulldogs
