Alcott was making her comeback from an ankle injury in Cortina |
Britain's Chemmy Alcott finished an encouraging 15th in the women's World Cup giant slalom in Cortina. The Sussex skier is making a comeback from injury after breaking her ankle in training in Canada last year. Alcott is aiming to compete in the World Championships at Val d'Isere in France from 3-15 February. The giant slalom in Italy was won by Kathrin Zettel of Austria, followed by compatriots Michaela Kirchgasser and Elisabeth Goergl. Alcott was preparing for her second World Cup race of the season when she got injured, having finished 10th in the opening race in Soelden, Austria, which was her best giant slalom result. On her return to competitive action on Saturday, Alcott finished 47th in the downhill event at Cortina. Alcott was back in training but forced to delay her planned comeback at Maribor in Slovenia earlier this month because the ankle needed more time to recover.
