Miller in World Cup 'quit' threat
Bode Miller takes on the slalom course in Kranjska Gora
American star Bode Miller threatened to quit the World Cup circuit after being fined for failing to take a regulation boot test after a slalom in Slovenia.

The overall World Cup champion was fined 1,000 Swiss francs ($760, 440) and said: "If they don't lift it I will quit the tour. It makes no sense."

But he was later given the chance to explain his position to FIS equipment evaluation official Mike Kertesz.

"I hope everything will be fine now," Miller said afterwards.

"Nobody informed me about the boot test at the moment I left the finish area.

"When I was told I'd already taken my boots off so how could they prove the boots were mine? I hadn't qualified for the second run anyway so it didn't make sense to me."

Miller failed to qualify for the second leg of the slalom in Kranjska Gora after crashing through a gate on his first run and finishing 3.44 seconds behind first-leg leader Benjamin Raich of Austria.

He complained of pain in his left knee and quickly left the finish area, and planned to have a scan on the knee later on Thursday.

Italy's Giorgio Rocca eventually prevailed for his third straight slalom victory.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) later confirmed that Miller had been sanctioned for failing to fulfil the request for a boot test made by Kertesz through the USA media liason officer.

USA team-mate Ted Ligety, who finished third in the race, agreed with Miller that the test was illogical.

"I think it's kind of stupid to make him do it if he isn't going to be in the next run," Ligety said.
