The New Orleans Hornets, without a home following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, will play most of their 41 home NBA games in Oklahoma City. The Hornets will play 35 regular season games at the city's 19,675-seat Ford Center with six at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
The New Orleans Arena was used as a shelter in last month's disaster.
The Hornets will open their new NBA campaign away to the Cleveland Cavaliers on 2 November.
"The devastation of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region has made it necessary for the Hornets to move to a temporary location for the upcoming season," said NBA commissioner David Stern.
"But it was important to the Hornets and the NBA that we maintain a presence in Louisiana in anticipation of a return to New Orleans next season."
The NFL's New Orleans Saints split this season's home games between Baton Rouge and San Antonio in Texas.
