American League

Alfonso Soriano notched up his 200th hit of the season as his pair of RBI singles helped the New York Yankees to a 7-1 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Jason Giambi was also on form, blasting his 38th home run of the campaign in Wednesday's win.

Joe Weaver (10-11) held the Devil Rays to one run and six hits in seven and two-thirds innings to win his third straight start.

Jared Sandberg hit the Devil Rays' only run with his 18th homer of the year.

National League

A two-run homer from Mike Piazza gave the New York Mets a fifth straight victory at Shea Stadium since ending their National League record 15-game home losing streak.

Steve Trachsel also pitched seven solid innings to seal a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Piazza struck in the first inning, while Trachsel (10-11) allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Armando Benitez picked up his 33rd save and Chicago's Kerry Wood (11-10) took the loss.
