Brownlee has been in superb form over the last couple of months |
Alistair Brownlee claimed silver for Great Britain at the Holten ETU Triathlon European Championships. Brownlee, whose brother Jonathan won the junior men's title earlier on Sunday, finished runner-up to world champion Javier Gomez of Spain. The 21-year-old Brownlee had previously secured back-to-back victories in Madrid and Washington in June. Hollie Avil was the highest-placed British athlete in the elite women's race, coming sixth. Next up for Brownlee is the ITU Triathlon World Championship Series event in London's Hyde Park on 16 August. Brownlee, who took up the sport at the age of 10 having started off as a runner and a swimmer, enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2006 when he became junior world and European champion. He retained his European title the following year and then moved up to become under-23 world champion last year.
