Britain's Tim Don finished ninth in the opening event of the Triathlon World Championship Series in South Korea.
The 2006 world champion from London finished 34 seconds behind race winner Bevan Docherty of New Zealand. Olly Freeman from Eastbourne was 12th.
In the women's race, Bridgend's 2008 world champion Helen Jenkins finished 14th, one place behind Liz Blatchford.
Jodie Swallow was 15th with Scotland's Kerry Lang 33rd. Aussie Emma Snowsill won in an one hour and seven minutes.
A new format this season sees the results of eight events, including on in London on 15-16 August and the grand final on Australia's Gold Coast in September, count towards the overall World Championship titles.
