Whitcombe won the London Triathlon last weekend |
Tim Don and Andrea Whitcombe will lead the British challenge at next month's World Triathlon Championship. British Triathlon's performance director Graeme Maw has named a 16-strong team to compete in Lausanne on 1-2 September.
In the under-23 category all eyes will be on the highly-rated Will Clarke, 21, who took bronze at the World Cup event in Salford last month.
"We have medal chances in four of the six races," said Maw.
"The athletes understand that and will be working closely with each other and with their coaches to maximise their overall performance."
The British team could increase to 18 if Rosie Clarke, Will's sister, is awarded a wildcard entry to the under-23 competition.
Wales' Helen Tucker will be a medal hope in the women's under-23 category if she can shake off an Achilles injury, while there are high expectations for Alistair Brownlee in the junior boys event.
