Hull schoolgirl Barber only took up the sport 18 months ago |
A young table tennis star from Hull has earned national performance selection after a dramatic rise up the rankings. Ten-year-old Imogen Barber was runner-up in the national championships (under 11 group) less than two years after starting to play the sport. She told BBC Look North: "Jacob, my brother, was invited to play and then I tried it and started playing." Barber has just spent her first week at an elite training camp at the national training centre in Lilleshall. Her coach Sally Shutt told BBC Look North: "She needs good technical skills and then we can build up the speed and spin and add that to natural ability." Imogen's father Frank added: "We support what she wants to do and she does the rest herself."
