Haywood says her main priority now is preparing for the 2012 Olympics |
Lincoln's Kate Haywood has confirmed that she is unlikely to make a second bid to qualify for the world swimming championships in Shanghai in July. Haywood, now based in Australia, came second in the 100m breaststroke at the British championships in Manchester. Following Tuesday's final she said she would not return to the UK for the ASA National championships in Sheffield. And she told BBC Lincolnshire: "At the moment I still think I probably won't be back in June to qualify again." She added: "I left to go to Australia to prepare for the 2012 Olympics. Next year's the important one, not this year. "If it means not swimming at the world championships then I'm willing to miss it so next year can be right." The Commonwealth Games medallist finished second to Stacey Tadd in the 100m breaststroke in Sheffield, although both were outside the world championship qualifying standard. Haywood, 23, said: "I was quicker than her in the semis and I think people know I'll be back next year for the Olympic trials."
