Devon swimmers off to Sheffield

Twose is tipped for a medal at the championships in Sheffield

Six Devon swimmers are set to compete at the National Age Group Championships 2009 in Sheffield on Wednesday.

The six who swim for Exeter Swimming Club include siblings Connie and George Fearnley and 13-year-old Jessica Twose.

George, 13, has qualified for six of the events and is is seeded in the top five for his age group.

Twose is currently the UK's number one 50m backstroke swimmer for her age group and will be hoping to break the current record of 30.97 seconds.

Connie Fearnley will be competing alongside Twose in the 100m backstroke.

The three other Exeter swimmers are Liam Spruce, Warren Barrett and Alex Wooldridge.

Spruce, 16, will be entering the water for the 100m and 200m breaststroke, whilst Barrett will be in the 50m butterfly, for which he is currently ranked 31st nationally.

Wooldridge, 18, has qualified for six events including the 50m, 100m and 200m buttefly as well as the 100m breastroke.
