BRITISH GAS SCOTTISH SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS Venue: Glasgow Dates: 25 to 28 June Coverage: Daily video highlights on the BBC Sport website (UK only) Report - Adlington shines in Scotland (UK users only) Rebecca Adlington beat her personal best by almost two seconds to win the 200m freestyle title at the Scottish National Championships in Glasgow. Yet the 400m and 800m Olympic champion, who won the 200m in 1:57.15 ahead of Jaz Carlin, may not race the event in July's World Championships in Rome. "I've got a lot of work to go to get a world-class time up against the other girls in the world," said Adlington. Hannah Miley won the women's 400m individual medley in 4:39.55. Adlington is likely to focus on other events in Italy, including the 4x200m relay. "My 800 is still my best event and I'd really love to do the four by two," she said. "That's the one where we all get the team together and it's just a brilliant event." Adlington, whose personal 200m best of 1:56.66 is still some way short of Federica Pellegrini's provisional world record of 1:54.47, added: "Hopefully in the next year I can improve on it. "The 200 is still a bonus for me. I would love to race it come London (2012)." If Adlington does withdraw, it would be welcome news for Scotland's Caitlin McClatchey, who finished third at Tollcross Park Leisure Centre. McClatchey set a target time of 1:57.58 for qualifying for the British team when she finished second at the British Championships in Sheffield in March. With Carlin registering a time of 1:58.34 in Glasgow, McClatchey may yet make the team for Rome. British champion Jo Jackson did not enter the event. Meanwhile, Gemma Spofforth won the 50m backstroke but was just outside the new British record of 27.99 she set in winning her heat on Thursday morning. Jemma Lowe won the women's 100m butterfly event in 58.41. In the men's events, Ian Hulme won the 50m butterfly in 24.17 and Simon Burnett was first home over 100m in the freestyle final with a time of 49.19. Richard Webb's place on the team for the World Championships was confirmed after Michael Jamieson won the 200m breaststroke but failed to beat Webb's time from Sheffield. That also applied to Richard Charlesworth, whose 1500m time from March was not bettered by the winner in Glasgow, Loughborough's Daniel Fogg.
