| Pusa safely through Marko Pusa lived up to his seeding at Frimley Green Third seed Marko Pusa of Finland completed the second round line up at the Embassy World Darts Championship with victory over England's Matt Clark. Pusa won the last of the first round matches 3-1 and will take on Tony David next, after the Australian beat Welshman Ritchie Davies by the same score. Clark started slowly and allowed Pusa to go two sets clear for the loss of just one leg. The Englishman turned things around in the third set with some high scoring, but Pusa regained the initiative to take the fourth set 3-0.
A 130 checkout gave him the deciding leg in the second set, he took the next 3-0 and claimed a thrilling set four 3-2 after Davies missed several chances at doubles. Co Stompe made a slow start before securing a comfortable 3-0 win over Scotland's Mike Veitch in his first round encounter. He will now play Bob Taylor, who beat John Ferrell 3-0, in the next round. Stompe took a poor first set 3-2 after winning a battle with Veitch to hit double one in the fourth leg. Vociferous support The Dutchman needed 27 darts to take the leg and admitted afterwards it had been an embarrassing effort. "I was very pleased with my performance apart from that one leg, when I was rubbish," he said. Stompe was again taken to a fifth leg in the second set before wrapping up the match with a 3-0 final set. He benefited from vociferous support from the sizeable crowd of orange-clad Dutch fans. "I felt sorry for Mike because most of the fans were cheering for me and were overpowering his Scottish supporters," said Stompe. "But I really love it up there." Stompe's next opponent Taylor made it past the first round for only the second time since his debut in 1991. The Scot, who lives in Sweden, had the advantage this time of being seeded and the world number six made no mistake against his 40-year-old opponent from Kent, finishing in style with a 102 check-out. |
