Selby faces Ronnie O'Sullivan for a place in the semi-finals

Mark Selby has described his victory over Stephen Hendry in the second round of the UK Championship in Telford as a "great scalp".

The Leicester star beat the seven-time world champion 9-5 and felt Hendry did not bring his top form to the table.

But Selby told BBC Radio Leicester: "Obviously he is still a great scalp whether he is playing well or not.

"Stephen played very well first session, but second session he didn't play as well as he is capable of."

The 2008 Masters champion will now meet three-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan in the quarter-finals and Selby spoke highly of his opponent in the last eight.

"He very rarely struggles. Every time I watch him play, more often than not, he plays well and scores really well," said Selby.

"Obviously, it will be a tough game but I will go out there, relish it and enjoy it. Hopefully, if I play my game like I have done this week, I will have every chance."

Selby, provisionally 15 in the world rankings, said the quality of opposition in the game was a tough as ever.

"Snooker is as hard as it's ever been. I lost to Ken Doherty at the Grand Prix, which is a tough draw for anybody and I lost to Stuart Bingham in China," he said.

"I wasn't playing badly, it's just that they were playing better.

"Snooker is very difficult sport mentally. It was only a couple of years ago I won the Masters and the Welsh Open doing what I am doing now.

"When I was getting bad results I just had to look back at that and knew that it was either a matter of having some bad form or that other players were playing better."
