The next generation of snooker players are adamant that the sport can still appeal to a young audience.

The likes of Jamie Cope, Michael Georgiou and Daniel Wells have got together in an effort to promote the game to a younger audience.

"It's been perceived lately in Britain that old people watch it but hopefully we can now get a lot of younger viewers," Wells told BBC London.

Cope said: "It's a game for young people, a game for all ages."

The pair were speaking at the launch of World Snooker's 'Hotshots' scheme, which aims to show there are still personalities in the game.

"It's a misconception that there's no characters and we still get fantastic viewing figures so snooker is still a very popular sport," said World Snooker spokesman Ivan Hirschowitz.

"People like Daniel, Mark Allen and Mark Selby have got strong personalities. What World Snooker, as a governing body, have to do is promote them more and get their names and faces known on and off the table."
