Doherty is a three-time finalist at the UK Championship |
Dubliner Ken Doherty eased his way into the third round of the UK Championship in York by completing a 9-1 thrashing of England's Mike Dunn on Sunday. Resuming 7-1 ahead, Doherty did not concede a point as he easily claimed the two frames needed for victory.
Doherty will now take on Joe Perry in the last 16 on Monday.
Top seed Ding Junhui, of China, ensured his progression with a 9-7 win over Welshman Ryan Day, scoring century breaks in frames six and seven.
The 19-year-old from China claimed victory having only arrived in England late on Friday night following his exploits at the Asian Games in Qatar, where he won three gold medals.
There was nothing to separate Ding and Day after the first 14 frames as the match was deadlocked 7-7.
Ding claimed the next and although Day's 62 looked to have taken the match to a decider, he ran out of position to give the Chinese player the chance to seal victory.
"I've had no rest," said Ding.
"I was worried about this match because my form at the Asian Games was not that stable, but my confidence is growing now."
Meanwhile, Doherty, a Manchester United fan, was able to finish his game in time to watch Chelsea's match against Arsenal.
"I just wanted to get the match over and done with - I have a match to watch," said Doherty.
"It's just nice to settle in very quickly and play some decent stuff.
"I got off to a good start. I don't think Mike settled very well - there's a big difference between playing on TV and the pre-TV stage."
