Crucible diary - day 16
By Dan Warren
BBC Sport at the Crucible

Graeme Dott (right) wonders where Ken Doherty has got to
"Hold on, you're not Ken..."
Popular Irishman Ken Doherty crashed out of the tournament in the first round to Joe Swail - but, amazingly, he still made the final.

Confused? So were the punters in the audience when the Dubliner's name appeared on the scoreboard during O'Sullivan's match with Dott.

Talk of "Comeback Ken's greatest triumph" rumbled around an amused press room.

But back in the arena, the Rocket - at the table during the kerfuffle - did not find it too funny when match adjudicator Jan Verhaas attempted to sort out the problem.

Nevertheless, there were no explosions from O'Sullivan - and the way in which he rattled off the final three frames of the day suggest he was even, bizarrely, inspired by the technological shenanigans.

West Brom scoring legend Lee Hughes has opted for some relaxing times watching the snooker as he bids to help his side snatch the Division One title from Norwich.

West Brom's Lee Hughes
"Out of my way, I've got snooker to watch"
Hughesy was spotted making his way into the arena for the evening session of the O'Sullivan-Dott final.

Bromwich are already promoted, but no doubt they'd like to snatch the title from the high-flying Canaries, and maybe Hughes was taking advice on how to upset the odds from snooker surprise package Graeme Dott.

Or maybe he was just up for a rumble with devoted Norwich-supporting snooker pro Barry Pinches....

Any Rocket fans who were worried their hero would go off the boil after his astounding semi-final display against Stephen Hendry will have feared the worst as he slipped 5-0 behind 'Dotty' in the final.

But Essex's Exocet proved beyond any doubt that he was motivated after rattling in a 100 break to take his first frame of the day.

His cue-waving celebration was lapped up by his army of loyal followers.

That said, only last week the sight of O'Sullivan waving a cue above his head would have struck terror into all and sundry - even fight-hungry Quinten Hann.

But it was, in fact, testament to the all-new totally professional Rocket who has fired on all cylinders this week.
