McCulloch dominated his match against McManus |
Ian McCulloch wasted little time in wrapping up a 13-6 victory over Alan McManus to set up a quarter-final showdown against Stephen Hendry. McCulloch, who beat 2002 champion Peter Ebdon in the first round, started the evening session 11-5 ahead.
He then proceeded to take a scrappy opener to the final session, before McManus pulled the next one back.
But the damage was already done for the 10th seeded Scot and McCulloch sealed it in the 19th frame.
Ian McCulloch felt his second round match against Alan McManus was settled after his superb start on Sunday.
McCulloch never looked back after carving out a 7-1 lead as he wrapped up a comfortable 13-6 victory.
"I expected a tough game, but when you are 7-1 up, he can't really win it - you have to lose it."
"If you have got aspirations to win the tournament, you have to beat the best," he added, after setting up a last eight encounter against Stephen Hendry.
Alan McManus offered no excuses after he was well beaten in the second round by qualifier Ian McCulloch.
"At the end of the day Ian just played better than me," said the 10th seed, after he slumped to a 13-6 defeat.
"When he got in amongst the balls he was scoring heavily and he fully deserved to win the match.
"It's disappointing because I would rather lose in the way Barry Pinches did, playing superbly in a quality match, rather than going out tamely."
