David Gray completed a comfortable 13-5 win over outsider Lee Walker to reach his first-ever Crucible quarter-final.

The world number 12 recommenced his match needing just two more frames and was relieved to take an epic opener on the pink.

Walker, who beat fifth seed Stephen Lee in the first round, lost his confidence and, although Gray was not exactly on top form, he did enough in the next.

Gray will face either Graeme Dott or John Higgins in the last eight.

Afterwards, Gray was in no mood to celebrate, despite reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in his career.

He said: "It was not my greatest performance. I felt in control, but my scoring was not up to scratch.

"I was lucky to win a lot of scrappy frames which is not like me, and in the first session I felt really flat.

"I've got to score more heavily. Tomorrow's another day and hopefully I will be better in the quarter-final."

Walker tried to look on the bright side, but admitted he was disappointed.

"It's hard to be too despondent. I've had a good season and reaching the last 16 is great," the world number 81 said.

"But I've not played well here. I couldn't relax or get it together. I was disappointed in the way I played.

"You want to prove what you can do and put on a show for the camera and I don't think I've done that."
