Walker will lead the modernisation of snooker |
Snooker's top players have backed moves to restructure and modernise the sport. The professional snooker players gave their go-ahead on Tuesday to proposals to hand control of governing body the WPBSA to Sir Rodney Walker.
Two players, Tony Knowles and Joe Johnson, stepped down from the board in the wake of the vote.
"Now we can go forward and make the changes that the sport desperately needs. I promise we will do our best to secure a sound future," said Walker.
Walker, already chairman of snooker's commercial arm World Snooker, had written to all professional snooker players last week warning that he feared for the future of snooker unless urgent reforms were carried out.
Walker believes the sport needs to become more effective at securing sponsorship, six-times world champion Steve Davis told BBC Sport.
In a bid to boost snooker's finances, BBC Sport understands the former Leicester City chairman is bringing in three new members to the board with relevant expertise, including one who is believed to be an executive for Channel Four.
