Sir Rodney Walker has been appointed boss of the commercial arm of snooker's world governing body. Walker's experience includes chairing UK Sport, the Rugby Football League, Leicester City, Wembley Stadium and last year's Commonwealth Games.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge," he said after being appointed chairman of World Snooker.
World Snooker is the commercial arm of the World Professional Snooker and Billiards Association.
WPBSA will continue to be run by a board of seven people which must include at least four players.
Walker added that he was "delighted" with his new role.

"We have more TV coverage than any other sport with the exception of football and that is a strength which we can exploit as we look for commercial partners. "Together with my fellow directors we will build on the restoration of the sport's reputation, strengthen the sport in this country and seek out opportunities around the world."
Walker's appointment has been endorsed by key figures in the sport.
Steve Davis, six-time world champion, said: "I know I speak for all the top players when I say I am delighted that Sir Rodney Walker has joined World Snooker.
"It is fantastic that snooker has been able to attract one of the world's most prominent sports administrators. I am looking forward to sharing in the success."
Ronnie O'Sullivan also offered his support
He said: "It's refreshing that someone who is so well known in sport wishes to lead the development of snooker.
"His profile and contacts in the industry gives us a great basis for moving forward and re-establishing the sport."
