Sailors fine-tune yacht ahead of big race

Devon sailors Alex Bennett and Malcolm Dickinson will start their Round Britain and Ireland race on Sunday after six months of preparation.

The duo will attempt the race in Bennett's Class 40 yacht, Fujifilm.

Bennett said: "The Round Britain is an epic test of endurance and one of the must-do races on the calendar and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.

"We've got some top class competition but I'm confident we're well prepared and ready to take on the fleet."

The 2010 edition of the Round Britain and Ireland race, which is run by the Royal Western Yacht Club every four years, will see around 50 yachts leave Plymouth on 6 June.

The boats will head west towards Lands End, before sailing clockwise around the British Isles to finish back in Plymouth.

Bennett previously entered the race in 1998, when he skippered the Class 5 monohull Modi Khola into third place.
