Italian challengers Luna Rossa claimed a shock win over America's BMW Oracle Racing as the Louis Vuitton Cup semi-final began off the Spanish coast. In light winds Luna Rossa won in two minutes 19 seconds to go 1-0 up in the best-of-nine race semi-final.
The other semi-final saw Team New Zealand easily beat Spain's Desafio Espanol by 43 seconds.
The two winners then face each other for the right to challenge America's Cup holders Alinghi at the end of June.
