The crew of Desafio Espanol celebrate reaching the Louis Vuitton Cup semi-finals

The Spaniards secured their place alongside BMW Oracle, Luna Rossa and Team New Zealand when Victory lost their penultimate race to the Kiwis.

Desafio Espanol also lost against Oracle but with one race left they have an unassailable lead over the Swedes.

"It's a special day but there's lots to do yet," said boss Agustin Zulueta.

BMW Oracle lead the standings on 37 points, one clear of Team New Zealand with Luna Rossa on 33 and Desafio Espanol on 29.

The leading challengers after the round robins can pick their semi-final opponents from the other three teams, so there is all to play for in Wednesday's final matches when Oracle take on Team New Zealand.

The Louis Vuitton Cup semi-finals take place from 14-25 May with the best-of-nine final from 1-12 June.

The winning challenger faces Swiss holders Alinghi in the best-of-nine race America's Cup from 23 June-7 July.
