Double Olympic medallist Ben Ainslie steered Robert Condon's Swan 70 Volvo for Life to victory in the Rocking Chair Trophy on the penultimate day of Cowes Week on Friday.

Ainslie's crew, which includes a number of big-name sailors - Lisa and Neal McDonald and Olympic bronze medallist Ossie Stewart - beat Nick Hewson's Farr 52 Team Tonic by 28 seconds.

It was Volvo for Life's second prize of the week having won the Royal Yacht Squadron Trophy on Tuesday.

Team Tonic, steered by Jeremy Robinson, held off Peter Harrison's Chernikeef 2 after a visit to the protest room over a right of way argument at the first mark.

Kit Hobday's Bear of Britain, steered by UBS Challenge winner Chris Law, was fourth.

Team Tonic leads overall in Class 0 IRC with one race left having accumulated 18 points from a first, two seconds, two fourths and a fifth.

Hobday's crew is second, one point behind, with Peter Morton's Mandrake in third, 10 points adrift of the leader.

Cork Week champion and Cowes' early leader Wolf, with Kevin Sproul calling the shots, is fourth.

Cowes Week is one of the big sailing events of the calendar year
