Action from the 2008 World Coastal Rowing Championships in Italy |
Over 400 rowers are set to descend on Plymouth this weekend for the World Coastal Rowing Championships. The first round of the event starts on Friday at Queen Anne's Battery, with the finals due to be held on Sunday. Teams from across 22 different countries are expected to take part, including New Zealand and France. The rowers will compete over an eight-mile course through Plymouth Sound, with single sculls, doubles and quads all in action. Local interest comes in the form of the Mayflower Offshore Rowing Club, which is based in Plymouth, and also Torquay Rowing Club.
