Page (l) and Rodford won gold at the Under-23 championships in 2004 |
Gloucestershire's Beth Rodford and Natasha Page will be rowing for gold in the World Championships in Poznan, Poland on Sunday. Rodford was in the women's quad which came second in their repechage, while Page was part of the women's eight that finished third to qualify. "We didn't have a great start, we went for it at half-way and overtook Russia and Italy," Rodford told the BBC. "It will give us a better lane for Sunday but there is lots to work on." Both races were won by Germany and Rodford sees the Germans as one of the major obstacles to the quad crew taking a medal. "The Germans have beaten us all season, apart from the heats here. We have a tendency to get dropped in the first half of the race but our second half speed is good. We have to go out with the pack and then push on." Nailsworth's Peter Reed partners Andy Hodge in the semi-finals of the men's pair on Thursday.
