Great Britain's four extended their unbeaten streak |
Britain's world champion men's coxless four and women's quadruple scull were among 12 British crews to qualify for finals in the World Cup opener in Linz. The four survived a strong start from the Netherlands to finish two seconds ahead in their semi-final.
World Cup holder Alan Campbell won his semi and will be pleased world champion Mahe Drysdale is absent from the final.
The new-look women's quad was two lengths ahead of Romania by the 750m mark, winning their heat in 6:31.17.
"We're here to lay down our marker", said crew member Frances Houghton. "We wanted to show the rest of the world what we can do."
Colin Smith and Matt Langridge won their second race as a pair, coming from behind against Canada and Germany to win their semi.
Following them down the course in the double, Stephen Rowbotham and Matt Wells broke clear of France with 1,250m gone to book a final spot.
"We had a really solid row - we didn't want to show all our cards," said Rowbotham afterwards.
The men's eight, stroked by Alastair Heathcote, are through to the final after a second place in the repechage behind Belarus.
And the women's eight also progressed after finishing behind an impressive Dutch crew and Australia in their heat.
Natasha Howard and Alison Knowles, making their World Cup senior debut as a pair, finished third behind two American crews to go through.
Andrea Dennis put in a strong finish to qualify in second place for the final of the lightweight single scull behind Cuba.
And there was a strong showing from the men's lightweight group.
Rebuilt crews won heats in the double and four, while pair Daniel Harte and Matt Beechey were two seconds adrift of the Dutch in their semi but did enough to take a final place.
