GB retain coxless four's line-up

Britain's coxless four will remain the same for the Linz World Cup
Great Britain have kept faith with last year's World Championship-winning men's coxless four for June's opening World Cup regatta in Linz, Austria.

Andy Hodge, Peter Reed, Steve Williams and Alex Partridge will stay together despite speculation Hodge and Reed could race in the pairs.

Matt Wells and Stephen Rowbotham will again form the men's double scull.

"What the rowers have done for the past two years doesn't count. This is a new start," said coach Jurgen Grobler.

"One very positive point is the high standard and consistent performances that the rowers have put in over the winter."

Annie Vernon

Zac Purchase, 20, the lightweight single scull world champion, will step up to the Olympic class lightweight men's double scull along with Mark Hunter.

And 24-year-old Annie Vernon will move up into the leading women's crew, the two-time world championship-winning quadruple scull, alongside Katherine Grainger, Fran Houghton and Debbie Flood.

"I was surprised, almost in shock, when I was first told but, of course, I'm pleased to be in the lead boat," said Vernon.

"I think we've got a really strong women's squad as a whole and a top-class women's quad. I can't wait to get on and race now."

Alan Campbell, victor for a second time at the GB trials, will race in the men's single scull, while Anna Bebington and Elise Laverick will form the women's double scull.

But Olympic bronze medallist and double world champion Sarah Winckless will miss most of the season after knee surgery.

"We've had an excellent set of trials and these are our priority crews for the first World Cup of the season," said GB performance director David Tanner.

"This is a key season with Olympic qualifying at the World Championships in August. We were pleased with our three Olympic class medals from 2006 and aim to build on that in the coming season."

GB Rowing will announce further crew selections prior to the Linz World Cup.
