The GB four only got together earlier this year |
The new-look Great Britain men's four claimed an impressive win at the Rowing World Cup in Eton in their first international together. Athens gold medallist Steve Williams linked up with Peter Reed, Alex Partridge and Andrew Hodge to clock a time of five minutes 59.90 seconds.
They beat Denmark by four seconds, with the Czech Republic back in third.
The British team made a strong start, building up an early lead, and were never troubled after that.
The crew had qualified fastest for the final and, after building up a comfortable advantage, eased down in the final 250 metres.
"This was only our second race of the season so we will go back and look at how we can improve further for next time," said Williams.
"We know there will be some bigger tests ahead but this was a nice race to start us off."
There was also success for the women's quadruple sculls crew of Katherine Grainger, Rebecca Romero, Frances Houghton and Sarah Winckless, who edged out Russia in their final.
Britain finished the three-day event top of the overall table, ahead of Germany with the Czech Republic in third.
Tim Male took bronze in the men's single scull with Nick English and Daniel Harte also third in the lightweight men's pair.
British eights landed bronze in both the men's and women's events but there was disappointment for Debbie Flood, who finished last in the final of the single sculls.
