Slough Jets boss wary of Basingstoke Bison cup threat

Slough Jets

Slough Jets coach Pete Russell has warned his side to be wary of Basingstoke Bison ahead of the second leg of the EPL final.

Jets take a one-goal lead into the deciding match on Wednesday, having won the first leg 3-2.

Russell told BBC Berkshire: "Bison are a strong team who play differently to us, so we must not let them capitalise on our mistakes.

"This cup is important, it's the first trophy of the year and we want to win."

Russell continued: "I don't think one goal is a massive thing unless it's at the end of the game but I'd rather be ahead than down for our confidence and belief.

"But we aren't getting carried away, there's still a lot to play for, it's wide open and that's good."

If someone had said to me two years ago that I would be working with this group of players, a play-off champion and in the final of the EPL cup I would've laughed

The ex-Bracknell Bees coach, who won the play-off championship with the Jets last season, says he feels fortunate with the success he has achieved since joining the club in 2009.

"If someone had said to me two years ago I would be working with this group of players, a play-off champion and in the final of the EPL cup I would've laughed," he said.

"So it's been a whirlwind but I've been lucky because we have a lot of winners in this team, the guys have worked hard to get things done and coming here has been great for me, so hopefully we continue to move along."
