Tom Watkins' Tigers lie bottom of the English Premier League |
Injury-hit Telford Tigers battled bravely before going down 6-2 to Milton Keynes Lightning. The Tigers, who only had 13 fit players to choose from, cancelled out the Lightning's opener through Joe Henry. The visitors then powered into a 6-1 lead before Luke Brittle scored a late consolation, his first Tigers goal. "We worked really well, but gave away a few too many silly penalties from being fatigued," player-coach Tom Watkins told BBC Radio Shropshire. Watkins' pre-game selection problems were compounded by the late withdrawal of import Andrejs Maslovskis, who was struck down by an eye infection, but the Tigers boss was encouraged by the performance of 17-year-old Brittle. "Luke has come from a junior career where he's used to scoring lots of goals and it's taken him a while to get his first," said Watkins. "He's had his head down a little bit but he's kept going and he thoroughly deserved that goal. Man of the match Brittle added: "It was good to break the ice and get a nice goal. "We were shortbenched and got tired, so a lot of the goals against us came from that, but everybody worked hard."
