Manchester Phoenix remain top after weekend wins

Ice hockey

Manchester Phoenix remain top of the Premier League after beating Sheffield and Telford at the weekend.

Goals from Marcus Kristofferson, Curtis Huppe, James Archer and Ben Wood gave the Phoenix a 4-2 win over the Steeldogs on Saturday.

The side then recorded an impressive 8-2 win at Telford Tigers on Sunday.

Player-coach Tony Hand told the club website: "Things are really starting to come together now and goals are coming from everywhere."

Next weekend Phoenix face a double header against second placed Guilford and Hand is looking forward to the games.

Hand added: "We will not underestimate the importance of next weekend's games, but there will still be plenty of games to play after that, and nothing will be decided.

"That said, I know everyone will be ready for a tempestuous weekend of hockey, and the atmosphere in the Dome next weekend will be electric."
