Watkins has made 672 appearances for Blaze

Coventry Blaze defenceman Tommy Watkins celebrated his testimonial on Wednesday by paying tribute to the fans.

Watkins has won 10 trophies in a decade with the Blaze and his All-Stars team beat Blaze 15-8 in the exhibition game.

"We've got the best fans in the country without doubt. They travel everywhere and give us great support," Watkins told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.

"They get on our backs now and again when we're not performing but they have the same high expectations that we do."

He added: "We've done well for them over the years and they just want that to keep going."

Blaze could claim another Elite League title this season. They currently head the division by three points from Belfast Giants who they meet at the Skydome on Sunday.

Coventry go to Hull Stingrays the night before.
