Meyers is in his second season as Panthers captain
Nottingham captain Danny Meyers says they will not read too much into Sunday's defeat against Newcastle.
Panthers beat Coventry 2-1 on Saturday but a flurry of late goals saw them lose 5-3 to the Vipers 24 hours later.
"I don't think we played badly but we didn't play well enough to win. But despite not playing well, we could have won," Meyers told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"It's a sobering reminder that we are still making baby steps at the moment. But it's not the end of the world."
On Saturday at the National Ice Centre Johan Molin scored Nottingham's winner with less than six minutes remaining.
The home side took the lead at the halfway mark through Marc Levers' powerplay strike.
They were pegged back with just under 10 minutes left when Greg Chambers netted but Molin struck on the powerplay to give Panthers victory.
The following day Nottingham were not at their best in a thrilling game against Vipers and paid the price for missing several chances.
Cameron Mann twice put the visitors ahead in the opening period but Newcastle hit back through Mike Berry and Matic Kralj.
After a goalless second period, Berry's second of the night and an empty net strike by Matic Kralj had Vipers 4-2 ahead.
Levers gave Nottingham hope of a comeback with a minute to go but Berry sealed his hat-trick to take Vipers to the top of the Elite League table.
Meyers added: "The first loss of the season is always the toughest to take especially after the start we've had.
"It's a reminder just how strong the league is."
