Courtenay guided the Giants to the League title during his spell in charge

Two Ed Courtenay goals helped Newcastle Vipers beat his former club Belfast Giants in Sunday's Elite League clash.

Goals from Rob Rankin and Jeff Hutchins put Newcastle 2-0 up before Paul Deniset pulled a goal back for Belfast.

Another Hutchins strike extended the lead before Courtenay's two goals put the Vipers in firm control.

Two Mark Morrison goals gave the Giants a glimmer of hope but Hutchins completed his hat-trick in the closing two minutes of the contest.
