Swindon Wildcats have sacked head coach Peter Russell after two years in charge at the Link Centre.

The club say they have taken the decision because they want to move in a "different direction".

Russell joined in December 2006 leading Swindon to the play-offs in both of his seasons and had back-to-back league wins at the weekend.

Swindon have made no comment on Russell's replacement but new signing Ryan Aldridge is a strong candidate.
